Speech by Councilperson Lourdes Barroso de Padilla
In November 2021, Lourdes Barroso de Padilla made history by becoming the first Latina to be elected to the Columbus City Council. She is a bilingual, first-generation Cuban-American who was born and raised on the eastside of Columbus.
In her role on Council, Lourdes works to bring equity and pride to all residents.

Syleena Johnson
Syleena Johnson is a Grammy-nominated recording artist and a woman of many titles and talents. Singer, songwriter, author, and daytime talk show host are just a few platforms that enable her to share her gifts with the world. She is the daughter of legendary Soul/Blues singer Syl Johnson and grew up outside of Chicago. She is a staunch member of Zeta Phi Beta Sorority, currently pairing it with her love for health and fitness to spearhead Zeta’s Have a Heart “Fit to Finer” fitness challenge. With a career spanning over two decades, Syleena is a household name. She currently cohosts alongside Vivica A. Fox, Lore’l, and Chanel Nicole Scott the talk show “Crowned”, on the black-centered streaming platform In The Black Network. Her highly anticipated album, Legacy, is set to release August 30th!
